Now is the time for bold climate, jobs policy – not giveaways to building owners. @NYGovCuomo‘s budget provision will undermine NYC’s ability to reduce GHGs and create green jobs. #SaveLL97#SaveGreenJobs Stand with @NYClimateWorks and read our letter: https://alignny.org/resource/letter-to-governor-cuomo-ted-bill-provision-enabling-new-york-city-buildings-owners-to-evade-climate-change-responsibility/
Green Team LI: On-the-Job Training for Energy Efficiency and Clean Technology
Green Team LI, a Heat/Cool Smart Brooklyn contractor, has hired 9 new employees and provided on-the-job training for high-efficiency HVAC positions ranging from auditors to insulation and heat pump installers. “Our ability to use the OJT program with NYSERDA and New York State has allowed us to hire employees with less than ideal experience and track record and take the time to train them to become great employees. In the past we might have taken a pass, because we couldn’t afford to take a risk or spend the time.” – Jay Best, CEO
The On-the-Job Training for Energy Efficiency and Clean Technology (PON 3982) from NYSERDA aims to reduce the costs to clean energy businesses for recruiting, hiring, and training new workers and teach new workers occupational skills to help clean energy businesses succeed.
Funding (up to $14 million) is capped at $150,000 per business and a maximum of $16 per hour for the NYSERDA cost share for each hire, except when hiring priority populations which has no cap.
100 employees or less – NYSERDA will pay 50% of a new employee’s hourly wage for 16 weeks; if an employee from a priority population is hired, NYSERDA will pay 50% of a new employee’s hourly wage for 24 weeks.
101 employees or more – NYSERDA will pay 50% of a new employee’s hourly wage for 24 weeks if the employee is from a priority population.
Businesses hiring workers related to heat pump installation (all business sizes) — NYSERDA will pay 75% of a new employee’s hourly wage for 16 weeks or 24 weeks if the employee is from a priority population.
Businesses hiring workers related to solar electric technology (all businesses sizes) — NYSERDA will pay 50% of a new employee’s hourly wage for 24 weeks if the employee is from a priority population.
